Frequently Asked Questions

Does my ukulele need a headstock adapter?

The short answer is: Yes, if your ukulele only has one strap button.

A headstock adapter is an accessory that creates a strong, secure attachment point at the headstock (the top of the neck) for your ukulele strap.

When You DO Need a Ukulele Headstock Adapter

You need this adapter if you want to play your ukulele while standing and your instrument has the most common setup:

  1. It has a single strap button (pin) located only on the bottom of the body (the tail-end).
  2. You want a more secure and attractive solution than using the thin piece of string or a shoelace that often comes with a ukulele strap.

When You DON'T Need a Ukulele Headstock Adapter

You can skip the adapter if any of the following are true:

  • Your ukulele has two strap buttons. (Some newer or higher-end ukuleles come with a second button installed on the heel of the neck.)
  • You use a "J-Hook" or "Uke Leash" style strap that hooks into the sound hole and doesn't require any buttons or headstock ties.
  • You only play while sitting down.

Key Benefit of the Wildtree Ukulele Adapter

The Wildtree Ukulele headstock adapter is designed to be thinner than the corresponding guitar version. This is important because it fits cleanly underneath the strings on the smaller ukulele headstock. It also looks a lot better than using a shoestring.

Will this strap fit my ukulele size — soprano, concert, tenor, or baritone?

Our ukulele strap adjusts from 28" to 48" in total length and is 1.5" wide, sized specifically for soprano, concert, and tenor ukuleles. Baritone ukuleles are noticeably larger and closer to a guitar in scale, so if you play baritone, our guitar strap may be the better fit — feel free to reach out to Hello@wildtreeoutdoor.com if you're not sure which is right for your instrument.

What's the ukulele strap made of?

The strap is made from polyester webbing with real leather ends. The leather ends are what connect to your ukulele's strap buttons, so they're the only part in contact with your instrument's hardware.

How is a ukulele strap different from a guitar strap?

It's sized down to match the instrument. Our ukulele strap adjusts from 28" to 48" and is 1.5" wide, versus 37" to 64" and 2" wide for our guitar strap. Using the correctly sized strap keeps the fit comfortable and avoids extra bulk on a smaller instrument. If your ukulele doesn't have strap buttons, both the guitar and ukulele lines pair with the same Headstock Adapter accessory.
